Oracle Support Policy for the Academic Oracle System
(Updated 8.1.2003)

General Oracle Support Policy

CIT supports a public Oracle instance for academic/instructional use by all members of the campus community. Academic use includes classroom instruction, lab usage, and general "scheduled coursework". Support functions provided by CIT include maintaining Oracle user accounts, maintaining database integrity, and providing consultation on the use of Oracle.

Specialized Oracle Support Policy

Requests which are academic/instructional in nature but go beyond our general service will require the attention of nodal or departmental staff working in collaboration with CIT support staff. This must be done by agreement which focuses on handling the support load beyond the general CIT support areas. This agreement should be understood by all involved support staff (CIT, nodal, departmental) and should be documented in a memo distributed to the involved parties.

Other groups (e.g. research groups) having specialized Oracle needs must purchase separate support and resources to provide those needs. These needs may include items such as additional disk space and specialized database administration (e.g. to setup their own Oracle instance). Support may be obtained through their computing node, from CIT, or from ITEC.

If you have questions regarding the Academic Oracle System (AOS) support policy or you need technical assistance with the use of Oracle, please contact the ASCIT Database Administrator (ascit-dba@buffalo.edu).
