Use of cron and at Utilities

Overview

UNIX cron and at utilities can be used to execute commands at specified dates and time.

Standards

UNIX system utilities cron and at are configured in the following way:
  • Public Workstations - (Fronczak) - disabled for all users
  • Timesharing hosts - (ubunix) - enabled for users who request access through the CIT Accounts Office
  • Private Workstations - enabled/disabled as workstation owner chooses.

Utilities cron and at are not to be used to circumvent other CIT policies (touching temporary files)and will not be permitted if extraordinary resource consumption is observed.

Process

Users who need to run jobs using cron or at should contact the CIT Accounts Office to have this feature enabled for their account.
