Blackboard Exception Account Policy and Procedures
(Updated 11.08.2006)

Blackboard Exception Account Policy

All University students, faculty, and staff have access to Blackboard (Bb) on UBlearns through their UBIT name and password. Individuals who are affiliated with the University who have alternative appointment status are also permitted entry, e.g., volunteers, retired faculty, etc. In addition, there are valid reasons to permit entry to non-UB personnel who do not have institutional credentials, e.g., research project collaborators and organization members. In order to allow access for these individuals, exception accounts need to be established according to the following procedure.

Procedure for Bb Exceptions for non-UB personnel, given access to Bb for courses, services and content

Bb Exceptions must have a Sponsor who must be a faculty of record for a Bb course/community site. Bb Exceptions are granted for as long as sponsorship continues.

  1. To Establish an Exception: a Sponsor, i.e., the course owner/instructor/coordinator, requests the creation of the Bb Exception by providing the credentials of the user to the Bb Application Administrator
    1. Credentials must include a copy of a photo identification card (driver's license, employee card, etc.) that has both the user's address and birth date.
    2. The initial password is created as MMDD=IN, where MM is birth month, DD is date in virth month, IN are user's initials.
    3. The Bb email address must be an off-campus ISP email address.
  2. Exceptions can be expired at the request of the sponsor or for inactivity for a period of one year.
  3. The LAMC tool ID Field will be set to the Sponsor's UBIT name and phone number. This provides sponsorship record-keeping continuity.
  4. No additional e-services will be provided except change of password for Bb Exception accounts.
