  UBFS Quota for Courses
(Updated 8.20.2002)

Overview

The university's institutional file system - UBFS is UB's implementation of the Open Software Foundation's Distributed File System - DFS. Shared UBFS course quota is for instructional needs, primarily for classes requiring students to have write permission to the fileset. Such classes may be allocated a special fileset quot a up to 300 MB.  In special cases greater quota may be allocated.  Shared filesets are located under the /ubfs/shared/courses directory tree. (Usually as  /ubfs/shared/courses/SEMYY/DEPT/NNN/ );  This space is included as part of the standard system backup process for user files.  The instructor should note that since this fileset quota is temporarily allocated, it is the instructor's responsibility to request an extension or to "backup" these files to another area when the fileset quota expires.

Process

  • Contact The CIT Help Desk.
  • The following information is required: the requester's name, phone number, campus address, UB IT name (username),
e-mail address, requested disk quota, the class number, e.g. CSE101A, and the registration number.
  • You may be contacted by a CIT staff member to clarify the information submitted and to better determine the required quota.
When the fileset and a class group has been setup, the instructor will be notified via e-mail.
